By means of systematic transects and directed tramping, a checklist of the tarrestrial mammals found at Carmen Island was obtained. 6 species were found, of which 4 are native to the island, and 2 were introduced.

This study generated the information needed for the mammals chapter of the book: Carmen Island’s Field Guide of Flora and Fauna.

1- Desert woodrat (Neotoma lepida nudicauda).
2- Spiny pocket mouse (Chaetodipus spinatus occultus).
3- Pocket mouse (Peromyscus eva carmeni)
4- Jackrabbit (Lepus californicus sheldoni)

Introduced species:

1- Desert bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis weemsi).
2- Domestic (feral) cat (Felis domesticus).
