Starting date: December 1998.

Finish date: December 1999.

Morphometrics and physicochaemical characteristics of the brine ponds at Carmen Island were evaluated during both dry and wet seasons.

After sampling collections using plankton-nets, the following parameters were obtained: population composition, biomass and natural production, fecundity, reproductive type, biometrics of eggs, larvae and adults.

The proper conditions for the eclosion of brine-shrimp eggs were set at the laboratory. Field and lab results were compared to each other by means of basic statistical analysis and discriminant analysis.
