Participant Institutions:
Organización Vida Silvestre, A.C. and Biological Sciences Faculty, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.

Starting date: April 5, 1999.

Finish date: July 30, 2000.

Objectives:

1- To determine the diet of Lynx rufus by the analysis of scats.

2- To evaluate the importance of the Texan white tailed-deer (Odocoileus virginianus texanus) in bobcat´s diet.

299 bobcat scats were collected and identified following Leopold (1977) and Aranda-Sánchez (1981). Scats were analyzed at the Maztozoology Lab of the Biological Sciences Faculty, UANL, and the identification of prey species was made by comparison with reference materials.

The importance of each different prey species was determined by means of their apparition frequency (AF), apparition percentage (%AF) and occurrence percentage (%OF). During this study mammals were the most important prey of bobcat, although no Texan white-tailed deer remains were identified.

Planeation of areas with an eco-touristic potential.
