OObjectives:

1. To develop strategies and management actions that will help us conserve the island’s ecosystems and biodiversity.

2. To avoid deterioration of the island’s ecosystems, so to secure the continuity of natural processes.

3. To maintain biological diversity.

4. To develop programs with those species with a sustainable use potential, so we could obtain funds for other conservation, research and monitoring programs.

5. To conserve the cultural heritage of the Carmen Island.

6. To promote participation of other scientific research institutions and associations to generate the information needed for decision-making.

7. To support and direct undergraduate and graduate students interested in Carmen Island’s research programs.

8. To communicate into a national and international level the research and conservation programs being developed in the island.

9. To help local communities and the general public to gain an appreciation about the importance of wildlife and their natural surroundings.

10. To create regulations for the problematic of the area.

The management program was made after the existing information on the island’s natural resources, conditions and problematic.

This program will be the base for decision-making for the conservation of Carmen Island’s ecosystems, its biodiversity and cultural heritage, as well as for the rational, sustainable use of its natural resources.

The management program was made after the completion of other programs on the protection, recovery and conservation of the island’s physical and biological resources.
