Objectives:

1. Remove excess of sediments from the main channel.

2. To rehabilitate the water-exchange door system of the artificial lagoons in the Los Ebanos reserve.

3. To install drainage and additional water deviation systems.

4. To develop a wetlands management and maintenance plan for the Los Ebanos reserve.

5. To develop a Monitoring Program of environmental parameters (physical and chemical), flora and fauna.

In 1985a series of artificial lagoons were made in an approximately 800 hectares area to create fresh water habitats to benefit resident and migratory aquatic birds.

The importance of this project lies on the restoration of artificial wetlands formed after an affluent of the Valle Hermoso irrigation system, Tamaulipas.

The area has being the subject of salinity and sedimentation pressures that affected the bushes next to the lagoons.

The water deviation system and its management program will help conserve the lagoons as a permanent fresh water habitat for migratory and resident aquatic birds, and the neighboring vegetation as the true native flora that provide shelter and food to the local fauna.
